GOW-MAC Participates in Polar
Expedition
GOW-MAC® Instrument Company has been
named as a “Supplier” to the “Total Pole
Airship” expedition, providing the Model
20-600 Portable Binary Gas Analyzer for
helium purity measurements. The expedition, taking place March - June 2008 and
led by Dr. Jean-Louis Etienne, will measure
the thickness of the pack ice while crossing
the entire Arctic Ocean. The expedition will
explore the pack ice in an airship.
Industrial Scientific Releases Gas
Monitor Training Video
Industrial Scientific Corporation announced
that two new online training videos have
been added to the company’s Web site.
A 19-minute online video gives a general
overview of the MX6 iBrid™ multi-gas moni-
tor, as well as its features and operation.
This training tool combines video footage
with voiceover to guide the viewer through
topics like menu navigation, remote sam-
pling, datalogging and calibration. The video
is divided into 17 tutorials for easy naviga-
tion and reference. The video is available on

Praxair Acquires Packaged Gases
Business
Praxair Distribution, Inc., a subsidiary of
Praxair, Inc. has acquired Kirk Welding Supply,
Inc. of Kansas City, Missouri. Financial terms
of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquired company had sales of $28
million in 2007. Through 10 locations in
eastern Kansas and western Missouri, the
company sells high-pressure industrial
and specialty gases, welding equipment
and related supplies and services.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Launches
Gas Chromatography Packages
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. announced the
launch of Biodiesel GC Productivity Solutions for EN/ASTM Gas Chromatography
(GC) methods. Designed as a comprehensive set of solutions, the Thermo Scientific
Biodiesel GC Productivity Solutions provide integration that can lead to increased
productivity for the three most commonly
applied GC-based methods: EN 14103 for
fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) characterization and linolenic acid methyl ester determination; EN 14105 / ASTM D6584 for free
and total glycerine content; EN 14110 for
methanol content.
Tiger Optics Awarded Five
Patents; Announces National Lab
Installations
Tiger Optics LLC announced that it has
received patents rights from the U. S. Patent
and Trademark Office for five new innovations of the company’s patented Continuous Wave Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy
(CW CRDS) technology. The new patents
improve analytical sensitivity and increase
the range of species that can be measured,
allowing Tiger Optics to expand beyond
gas analysis into the field of liquid analysis.
Tiger Optics is now positioned to develop
biological and chemical applications for the
needs of Homeland Security and medical
research, among others.
In another announcement, Tiger Optics
related that eight National Laboratories
around the world are using the company’s
C W CRDS-based gas analyzers for research
and as a transfer standard. National Laboratories using Tiger Optics’ analyzers are
those of the United Kingdom, Finland,
Holland, Japan, Korea, China, India, and
the United States.
